Non Sutcliffe Midget Oil Cans
A small copper spouted tinplate oilcan is seen from time to time that is clearly different from the Sutcliffe products but is dimensionally almost identical.Whether it is an early Sutcliffe design or the model for the Sutcliffe can remains to be ascertained. They seem to have been made for various retailers, each with their own brass badge soldered on.

This version is badged "The DUCO" (regd.) Brown Brothers Ltd. Gt. Eastern St. London This version is plain.

The Gamages version is badged on the side

.

As is this truncated specimen.

A very splendid all brass example appeared on ebay recently complete with its own stout leather case. It went for a suitably splendid price alas.

Although the Meccano K type oilcan was not made by Sutcliffe I cannot resist showing one here. At around 4 inches long it is substantially smaller than the Sutcliffe and is probably only suitable for light oil.
