Steam Powered Meccano
Meccano is probably the ultimate accessory for the toy steam engine. Strong, fireproof, resistant to methylated spirits ,oil and water, it lends itself to the creation of numerous satisfying steam powered models. No doubt the lesser imitations , Marklin, Exacto,Erector. etc. are equally versatile but , as an Englishman, I find the original the most satisfying . Plastic based construction sets, for example L*g*, are quite unsuitable. We usually have quite a number of steam powered Meccano models at STIA, one year we had no less than four versions of the famous 1929 Steam Shovel, and we are hoping to have a selection of models on show at our annual Meccano event in January. This will complement the Great Corporation Road Locomotive Trials to be held on the Beam Floor of the Engine House whilst the main event will be taking part in the Big shed.
